On Mexico, and home

on

Before I moved (almost 8 weeks ago now!), I was really interested to see how I would feel  living in Mexico. It’s easy to idealize a place when you visit, but after living in Mexico, would I feel at home?

With the exception of a few moments, I have! I realized this week that life here feels really normal. I wake up in my Mexican house, eat a traditionally Mexican meal at least once a day, drive to work at my Mexican job, and pay for everything I need in Mexican pesos. Isn’t that what home is supposed to feel like-normal and natural? And although Mexico becomes more familiar every day, it has yet to bore me for one second.

While I miss my family a lot and they are irreplaceable a thousand times over, Carlos’ family has welcomed me with open arms. Heck, practically everyone I’ve met has welcomed me with open arms. I really don’t have the words to say how thankful I am, not to mention happy. There’s always hard moments, of course, but at the end of every day, I know that I am home.
