Hannah, Carlos and I took an early-morning flight on Friday and arrived in Oslo mid-morning. The airport RyanAir uses is about an hour outside of the city, so we took a bus to Oslo’s central “bussterminalen.” The scenery along the ride was beautiful though, so I didn’t mind.
When we got off the bus, the first thing we did was stop for a kebab lunch.
Next we found our hostel, but we had to kill a couple of hours before check-in time. That was okay, because it was raining outside and we were tired.
After we checked in, we took naps to recharge.
Then we set out to explore. First stop: Oslo Cathedral. It was beautiful, and decorated differently than any church in Europe I’ve been in.
We walked the streets of central Oslo, enjoying the architecture, and the beautiful Norwegian people.
The paparazzi (a.k.a. Carlos) followed Hannah and I everywhere.
As we walked, we saw that incredible-looking building in the background that we wanted to check out….
It was the palace! The grounds were so pretty and green,
and this guard was keeping the peace. (Norway has a King & Queen and also a Prime Minister).
We all wore the same walking shoes.
After all that walking, we were hungry again, but with limited budgets, our dining options were also limited (and Oslo is an EXPENSIVE city). So we got dinner at 7-11 and ate it outside in a square, wondering how in the world we were in Norway.
And that was Day 1.
P.S. The last 2 pictures were taken pretty late. In the summertime here, it’s only dark from about 12 AM-3 AM!
Oslo Days 2 and 3 to come!
